Maurices???

So, I was a silly this morning and woke up at 8:15 to get breakfast and do some shopping with a few friends. I wasn't really planning on buying much, because I want to establish some savings up here, but there were some super sales at Maurices, so I gave in and bought myself some girly clothes. But at Maurices! I think I'm the only one here who thinks it strange that they have this trendy, cutesy clothes store called Maurices. For a long time I couldn't buy stuff there because it made me giggle too much when I imagined explaining where I got my clothes. Oh well, perhaps I'm the weird one, but now I've jumped on the bandwagon. And since its the only semi-nice place to find clothes in town, everyone has exactly the same stuff, so I'll begin to blend in around here a little more, perhaps :) That has always been my dream, you know.
Mmmmm, I had a bacon and cheese omelet for breakfast at Casey's Bakery and Restaurant this morning. If you ever make it to Sioux Center, do yourself a favor and get breakfast at Casey's once. It's a fabulous experience, plus they have great cookies for chasers, too.
I'm sitting here humming U2 songs to myself, and realizing just how wonderful U2 really is. If you have never given them much of a chance, you are to be most pitied. The quality of musicianship, intelligent and applicable lyrics, and excellent showmanship rank them right up there with Simon and Garfunkel, in my opinion. Although, right now I'm sampling the music styles of the Black Eyed Peas as well, and reliving my childhood with the occasional N'SYNC and Backstreet Boys songs. Sigh, it makes me wish I could dance better. If anyone wants to teach me, I would be happy to learn how to shake it! Let me know........

with marshmallows, please.....

Wow, it's been a while, eh? So, let's see, what have all y'all missed. (All y'all being a relative term, of course, because I know only about two people see this site. But anyways.... It's freezing rain and windy outside right now, a bad combination, I'm told. A bunch of us were supposed to go down to Le Mars to do some volunteering tonight, but since being safe and warm is better than being in a ditch, we decided it would be best to stay here. So my roommate Sarah and I watched Troy together. What a wonderful display of manflesh.........
In other news, let's see........ Ooh! I started voice lessons for the first time ever on Wednesday, and I already have 4 songs to learn and so far no opportunity to practice with my accompanist. So, I might have to find out just how far I can stretch my instructor's mercy, on the first day. This woman is a bit on the scary side. But she's not quite to the crone-point, so hopefully I'm good.
Sorry, this post is pretty bad, forgive me for my lack of inspiration tonight. I blame Mike Montgomery for going to the NBA, and the new moon.

That's all I'm thinking of, Baby, peace and love

So I was talking with my friend this evening and we decided that humanitarianism is a dying art. People simply don't care about 125,000 people dying in Southeast Asia, or the fact that little kids in the U.S. are growing up without cable TV. Steph and I are the last people who really feel and empathize, recognizing and embracing the "bond of common humanity." If you think this an extreme statement, prove me wrong! Go out of your way to help another human improve his or her quality of living for an extended period of time!
To render completely contradictory my previous paragraph, I learned today that I have a tendency to be extremely prejudicial toward minorities, the overweight, and those who don't do their hair, in a test I took in my Multiculturalism in Education course. All of the people around me had nice fluffy positive grades. Flaming liars.... It struck me as minorly funny because the majority of my friends fall into one of those categories - admit it, guys - so I don't think the test actually proved anything. But it made me feel terrible about myself for the better part of the day, so its purpose was served.
What, exactly, is in a chicken fried steak? I had one today and I really couldn't tell. Scary....... Although it was a Dordt chicken fried steak, so they're kind of the illegitemate cousins of real chicken fried steak anyways. But weird regardless.
So, you know Ugg boots? When did it become extremely fashionable to wear the suede versions of oven mitts for your feet, the more gaudily decorated the better!?! That's all I got. For you, Steph.
It's gotten to the point here where it's cold enough that every time you walk outside your nose hairs freeze and you cough incessantly. And then the wind blows you sliding across icy parking lots and you're late to all your classes because you got blown off course. And profs don't usually let you miss class because it's colder than it should ever be allowed to be. Oh well. I did choose to go to school in Iowa.
Anyone want to start a hot chocolate fan club with me? I'm just discovering the wonders that are inherant in this beverage of the gods, this sweet nectar of life, this liquid sunshine and vitality. Please, fellow children of the earth, join me in my adulation.

bright sunshiny day

The irony of this post's title is that it's not at all......... Get it? Nevermind. I'm really really hungry right now, and all I've got to eat is peanut butter. I guess I'll just find a spoon.
I've been through all of my classes now, and I have 5 in a row from 9Am to 2PM on MWF. This explains the hunger thing, I think. But I think the classes will be alright, especially my Ancient History class, for which I am mondo excited. I mean, he has us reading actual literature from the periods studied along with a text, does it get any better? Epic of Gilgamesh, what what!!! So that's sweetness.
I just completely ran out of energy from lack of food, and I think my left arm is going to give out any second, which means I'll only be about to type o lik hi , hi h i n' y in o m i . So I'm gonna eat! Love y'all!

it starts............

At the behest of Stephenie TerHaar, I have started my own blog. In the event that anything remotely interesting or pertinent ever appears on it, have no fear. It is purely coincidental.
So I'm back at Dordt, and it's chillies. Snow and icy sidewalks and biting winds and everything. Gotta love Iowa.
Yeah, so I'm pretty hungry and all I've had to eat since 11:00 yesterday morning was three SweetTarts, but they were some mighty fine SweetTarts.
That's all I've got. Welcome to the blog and please respond
