factories?

My roommate is spending the summer on Boston. I think she'll have a party, even with three young kids to take care of. It sounds better than a lot of midwestern jobs I've heard of. Anna D. and I are sitting here and laughing about how people in the midwest work in factories. Not to be racist or elitist, but I totally thought factories were for illegals and the elderly. I guess factories in the MW are different. Hahahaha, I'm glad I don't have to work in one anyway, though. Give me the good ol' Tar-get any day. Although I do wish that more of my lovies would visit me while I'm on duty.
I really need to take a shower. I'm housesitting again this weekend and I really dislike using other people's bathrooms for anything. So I come home to shower. Except I haven't yet. Gross.
Current Desktop Image: Deborah's is now Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy, and I do applaud her choice. I would marry Mr. Darcy any day. And I mean ANY.
Biggest desire at this moment: To already be done with work. But no. Not a chance.

Hmmm, working in a factory making $8 an hour (just for summer help) or $14+ (for full time) doesn't sound so bad compared to $6.50 or maybe $7 working in a fast food place or at any other grocery/super store. It really depends why you need the money, as a college student you are generally just looking for spending money, but if you have a family to feed you want to make as much as you can and if you have to work a whole 40 hours a week (OMG that's SO long) if you are making $14 that really helps when it comes to paying the bills. Having worked a variety of jobs from grocery store to construction to factory and office jobs as well I have to say that unless you've experienced them all I don't think you have any idea what you are talking about. I think the old adage is "don't knock it unless you've tried it" and that applies here. I know myself I don't want to work in a factory the next 40 productive years of my life, but then again, that's why I'm going to college, but if I've got a family and there are no jobs in my profession available then I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a factory job to support them while I try to find a job "more suited" to my training. The thing about the Midwest having a lot of factory jobs is simply a matter of what is produced here, you need factories to process the meat near where it is slaughtered otherwise it will spoil, and its just plain cheaper to process corn and beans in a central location near where they are produced rather than shipping them across the country to do so, so that makes factories there. Another reason many factories are located here is the cheaper cost of labor and land/taxes/startup. Just a few reasons, but there are many many others, besides the fact that factories are also located on the East coast and prolly in the West as well, just as there are more than just ranches in the South and Southwest, aren't generalizations great?

Just my 2 cents.

I'm pretty sure that was more like a buck fifty, Ethan.

First off, I hate the word "prolly." 1)it's not a word 2)it's a result of laziness, not wanting to take the extra time to pronounce 'pro-bab-ly'. 3)it looks like 'polly', which tends to make the definition of the word unclear. Is it 'probably' or is it talking about a parrot?

And Bethie, although I don't believe you meant to, your comment about factories could, dare I say it?, offend someone from midwest. Like in the first comment.

But, as a person who grew up in La-La land, I think I always assumed illegals worked in factories as well, just becuase I lived in the suburbs. Building a factory a suburban backyard wouldn't exactly go over well with the inhabitants.

At this point in my life, I might wish I worked in a factory for the pay. Summer workstudy at KDCR, granted I don't have to stand, but you gotta pull the strings a lot tighter to make ends meet. And to quote Destiny's child "Can't pay my automobills" right now. Oh, and I'm so glad that you think of me as sultry. And you'll be proud and I feel slightly ashamed, I have started listening to 'your music' more. It's so funny! Like Black-Eyed peas "No no no! Don't Phunk with my heart!" OH, I died watching that video!! Okay, bye bye for now.

I'm sorry you didn't like senior formal. But please, don't talk about it around me anymore. I put way too much time, money and effort into it to hear over and over that it was a flop.
